Our Process

As a design-build contractor, we juggle many moving parts to deliver projects that our clients love on time and within budget. With 35 years of experience in Upstate South Carolina’s residential construction industry, we’ve accrued a trusted list of vendors that share our own high standards and commitment to excellence. We had the pleasure of working with local designer, Tameca Brown, owner and founder of Villas10. She and her team helped us bring our clients’ modern farmhouse kitchen to life, and ensured that the space reflected our clients’ taste and lifestyle . We can’t help but love how this kitchen’s colorful and contemporary look is balanced out with the incorporation of clean lines and classic silhouettes. The integration of styles, combined with natural textures and bright finishes, results in a playful yet sophisticated space perfect for hosting.

Design

Our clients came to us with a beautiful, 1950s home just off of downtown Greenville’s North Main Street. While our clients were in love with the home’s location and charm, they were less than thrilled with the kitchen. The existing space was dark and sectioned off by a u-shaped island that left them with little seating. In addition, the cabinets and appliances were all crowded to one side of the kitchen; making it difficult for this health-conscious, fun-loving family to cook and entertain in the cramped space.

The previous kitchen, despite having four windows, was dark and uninviting. The fluorescent lighting above the cooking range only made the space feel more dingy in its artificial glow. Our team’s solution was to install two custom windows on either side of the new gas range, ensuring that the kitchen captures natural light at any hour of the day. In addition, six Savoy House single-light wall sconces were installed, one above each window, for early mornings and evenings. The sconces compliment the kitchen’s large, matching pendants above the island in aged brass by Capital Lighting. The renovated kitchen’s new windows, combined with contemporary brass light fixtures, create a warm and inviting space at any time of day or night.

In order to open up the existing space, add seating, and optimize storage, our team designed, assembled, and installed a custom, 10-foot long island with undermounted outlets in the center of the kitchen. Our clients juxtaposed their Oyster White cabinets and walls with a bold, blue-gray hue in Sherwin Williams’ Outerspace for the island. The large island acts as a focal point and anchors the space, with the kitchen’s appliances surrounding it.

The kitchen’s previous layout had all the appliances crowded to one side. While this does keep all of a cook’s necessities within reach, it makes it difficult for more than one person to be in the kitchen at a time. Our team chose to disperse the appliances, resulting in a more open floor plan, and creating zones within the kitchen. Placing the 48” gas range next to the sink and dishwasher makes meal prep and clean up more efficient. While the bar sink, beverage fridge, and ice maker at the opposite end of the kitchen creates a distinct zone for entertainment. By placing the refrigerator in the middle of the kitchen behind the island, our clients are easily able to pull out party platters or put away their weekly meal prep. The island serves as the bridge between the two zones, results in a cohesive kitchen with plenty of space for gathering with friends and family.

You might be thinking, “Do I have to hire an interior designer if I’ve already hired a design-build contractor?” And the short answer is, “You should.”

Our team creates and executes layouts that optimize our clients’ spaces through beautiful, high-quality, custom cabinetry, and storage solutions. An interior designer, on the other hand, will curate fabrics, finishes, and accessories that reflect the client’s taste, and create a seamless flow between other rooms within the home. We always suggest that clients work with a designer, because the renovation process comes with a seemingly never ending stream of decision making. And while hiring a trusted and vetted interior designer might feel like another huge expense, they will be able to use their experience and trained eye to make faster selections, pick higher quality pieces, and create a more cohesive look throughout your home. Ultimately, a knowledgeable interior designer will save you time and money in the long-run.
