Plus, learn how to adopt modern farmhouse style in your own home.
What Is Modern Farmhouse Style?
Modern farmhouse differentiates itself from the traditional farmhouse style by utilizing a more streamlined design and the incorporation of contrasting materials and colors. Let’s take a look at how this Inman, South Carolina kitchen is a perfect example of the Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Style.
Sleek Design:
Modern farmhouse kitchens embrace clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and a more streamlined approach compared to their traditional counterparts. This style often features flat-panel cabinetry, polished surfaces, and a simple color palette. Our clients’ kitchen utilizes shaker style doors with a discreet beading detail that adds visual depth the the all-white color palette. Ranier quartz countertops, and a white, polished, picket tile backsplash reflect the kitchen’s natural light- making it brighter, and appear larger.
Mixing Materials:
Modern farmhouse kitchens blend contrasting materials to create a high-end look. Combining wood, metal, and stone creates a visually intriguing and contemporary kitchen. The juxtaposition of these elements adds depth and texture to the space. Our clients chose to pair a white oak island with the kitchen’s solid white cabinetry, backsplash, and countertops. The island brings a natural element to the space, and balances the kitchen’s white and gold color scheme.
Neutral Colors with Pops of Contrast:
Neutral colors dominate modern farmhouse kitchens, with whites, grays, and earthy tones serving as the foundation. Accents of black or bold colors are strategically introduced through fixtures and accessories to create balance and visual interest. As we mentioned before, this kitchen’s all-white color palette would be stark if it weren’t for the incorporation of the contrasting island and brushed gold fixtures and pulls. The pops of color give the kitchen a high-end look, while the neutral and earthy tones in the walls and cabinetry offer a timeless, lived-in feel.

Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Transformation
By removing a large pantry and knocking down walls, the living and eating areas were better incorporated while allowing more natural light to flood the space. Although the walk-in pantry was removed, ingenious custom cabinetry design ensured that not an inch of storage space was lost.
